Why Designing your own career is Important?
It was summer of 2014, My SSLC results were about to be announced. I looked around when all my friends had sorted out their future plans. I always wondered how people had figured out that they are interested to become a Doctor, Mechanical engineer or a Gamer. I remember how some of my friends were forced to be an engineer and choose a career which their parents thought was right for them or for some it was fixed as they have to be a doctor because they belonged to the family of doctors.
This is something we all can relate to or have seen it around us. Several things like parental pressure, Peer pressure or societal trends have always influenced the generations to study something and make a career which they never got interested with. We have also seen some brave souls who have taken incharge of their dreams and have pursued a career which makes them happy and fulfilled. But more than that we have seen people cursing for the lost time and wrong decisions they made.
How do you design your own career?
Well, that’s something we all must learn and implement. Architecting your own career is like keeping each step with mindfulness. Knowledge is the key and experimenting the knowledge will determine the seriousness of your career. When you design your own career, you do what you love and enjoy every part of it.
Designing your own career is not an easy decision. It takes lot of thought process and evaluation. In addition to what you do, you always find people who has to say something about your choices. It takes determination, commitment and courage to follow your instinct. Trust your instinct
Here are few things you can follow in making a solid career design
· Learn about different things: Learning diversified fields is like understanding the mechanism of how different things work. When we set our mind to one thing and restrict our thoughts. We have not seen enough to make decision and we may fall into confusion when we explore. It’s always a good thing to invest your time and money in learning new things every day.
· Try different options: When you keep learning about different things, you slowly get triggered to try different things. New opportunities and innovations are products of trying new things and experimenting. The base for all the experiments is your instincts.
· Find a mentor: Find someone who is already at the place where you want to be. You get access to all the practical knowledge and assistance from the mentor. Having a mentor is more beneficial than having a friend. You friends can understand but assistance can only be provided by experienced mentors.
· Invest your time: Consistency is the key which makes you appear and your presence is felt. Invest your early career in learning new things and executing them. perseverance accompanied with consistency give the best of results
· Stop Complaining: Complaining gives you worries and there is no outcome out of it. It only makes you more stressful. Ask yourself what you can do about the constraints coming your way. My Golden rule to handle stress is — Do what is necessary first, than do what’s Possible. You will realize that you have started doing what you felt is impossible to do.
· Focus on Solutions: Designing your career is all about the mindset, if you have a problem solving mindset, chances are you see life with wider perspective which results in opening opportunities which we may have never imagined. The bigger the dreams, the bigger he achievement.
Conclusion: We all have a unique perspective about what we want to pursue in life and how you see life. The philosophy varies. Design Your Own Career and make sure you follow up on your choices and more importantly make an appropriate career choice.
